The “Fričovce – Svinia” section of the D1 motorway represents the motorway link in the section from the “Fričovce” junction up to the “Svinia” junction. The section overall length is about 11.2 km and it is designed to be constructed in the D26.5/100 category. The section begins north-east of the municipality of Fričovce and it continues north of the I/18 road to the municipality of Bertotovce. Then it crosses the I/18 road by means of a flyover and continues by its southern side, bypasses the municipalities of Chmiňany and Chminianska Nová Ves. The section ends south-west of the municipality of Svinia, close to the east of Chminianska Nová Ves. This section does not require relocations of any roads. It is necessary only to reconstruct the existing roads in places of crossing with the motorway. There will be 14 motorway bridges, bridging relatively short but steep valleys, with the piers as high as 35 m (structure 204-00), situated within the route. In case of these bridges it is mostly the segmental balanced cantilever construction method that is planned to be used. In addition to that the precast prestressed steel-concrete girders are planned to be used primarily. The longest bridge – the structure 208-00 – over the I/18 road, will be 365 m long. During the early works on the D1 PPP project, there were the deforesting, partial stripping of topsoil, archaeological surveys of certain localities performed and there were the approach roads to bridges and construction yards installations constructed. Within the Works scope it is necessary to deal with the stabilisation and improvement of subgrade of active landslide area beyond the new construction of social residential houses in the municipality of Chmiňany. The first stage of landslide area stabilisation shall be provided for by the Employer and it is to be completed before the construction start.
